WATSA is proud to offer a webinar with Dr. David Thornton talking about the "Time Free Calculator." Dr. Thornton will cover the following content:
1) Summary of the research underlying the Time-Free Calculator with the aim that participants should be able to explain this research to others
2) Using the the calculator to project to lifetime sexual recidivism rates for individuals about to be released.
Basic instruction in using the Calculator followed by application of it to different scenarios.
Scenarios considered here will include:
individuals who are potentially being released from the index sex offense sentence
individuals whose current sentence is for a nonsexual offense following an earlier sex offense
individuals whose current custody results from a technical violation following an earlier sex offense
Individuals with reduced life expectancies
Language for talking about the results
3) Risk assessment for those who have been in the community without reoffending
This will be discussed in the context of the concept of a Redemption Threshold and ways of determining when this has been reached will be considered.
4) Critiques of the Calculator and How to Respond to Them
This will be based on issues I have heard experts and attorneys raise
5) Genuine Limitations of the Calculator
This workshop will earn you 6 hours of Continuing Education.
